  • 9 day fortnight
  • 72.5 hour fortnight
  • Hybrid, flexible working environment, including some work from home days.

Join City of Moreton Bay as our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Museums Officer on Jinibara, Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) and Turrbal Country, and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

In this brand-new role, you will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ to create connections, uphold cultural protocols, share and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and stories. This will be achieved by:

  • Contributing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspective for the collection and sharing of stories, histories and culture.
  • Designing, planning and delivering programs and experiences that bring to life Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ stories and culture
  • Participating in research and consultation, developing content, and delivering protocols in relation to cultural provenance.

About you

Bring your passion, lived experience and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and culture. We are seeking an individual who shares our dedication to truth-telling and sharing cultural histories, to better inform future generations.

With your strong communication skills, you’ll have the ability to inform, educate and build strong relationships with Traditional Custodians and a range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will have a good knowledge and understanding of cultural provenance and protocols; and significant experience negotiating appropriate permissions for the sharing of stories and objects.

Project management skills are important as you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver concurrent projects which may include - collaboratively re-designing continuing exhibitions, supporting community temporary exhibition creation, annual public programs, unique museum or local history engagement opportunities, and providing guidance on the management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ collections.

Please note: this position has been identified under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement.
