City of Moreton Bay is a strong and connected community, nestled across coastal and hinterland landscapes that enjoy a pristine natural environment. It boasts award-winning commercial, educational, medical, leisure and residential precincts. The Council is the third largest and a rapidly growing local government area in Australia. A new organisational structure sees a functional realignment of the managerial framework to support the City’s forecasted growth and positioning to provide services to over 1 million residents post 2050.
Reporting to the General Manager – The Manager is accountable for working in partnership with other areas of Council to make a significant contribution to improved economic and social outcomes for the City, providing strategic commercial leadership and enterprise corporate services across the company through enabling and supporting delivery and operational functions to achieve commercial, governance and performance outcomes.
Key responsibilities and outcomes:
- Provide senior commercial oversight of major transactions including acquisitions/disposals, leasing, development agreements, service agreements, partnerships and joint ventures.
- Company Secretariat and governance support to the Board and executive
- Commercial strategy and advisory across key initiatives, programs, and transactions
- Corporate services leadership (legal, finance, procurement, risk, insurance, HR) and associated governance controls
- Property development commercial support focused on feasibility, structuring, and transaction execution
- Business partnering support across the enterprise structure,
- Prepare high-quality Board papers, governance reports, shareholder briefs, executive recommendations, and governance documentation.
- Maintain governance frameworks including delegations, policy instruments, compliance registers, and decision-making controls
- Closely monitor political, economic, industry, employment and social trends and developments which may impact on current Council operations.
- Build and develop a cohesive and high performing team that is aligned to business needs and is characterised by teamwork, respect for others, ethical decision making, innovation and flexibility
- Foster teamwork, innovation and a culture of excellence by working closely with coordinators and team leaders.
You will champion a values-based leadership approach which delivers a productive, safe and collaborative work environment, modelling high standards of conduct, performance and behaviour. The role requires a demonstrated ability to lead a range of staff to deliver on and exceed priorities whilst maintaining excellence in service. Significant success (15+ years) at management level in a similar position along with tertiary qualifications, are highly desirable.
You will possess exceptional leadership skills and can clearly develop and translate Council’s objectives, policies, plans and strategies to internal and external stakeholders. Your strong sense of judgement and astute decision-making skills along with a strong customer ethos are imperative to the success of this role.
