City of Moreton Bay is a strong and connected community, nestled across coastal and hinterland landscapes that enjoy a pristine natural environment. It boasts award-winning commercial, educational, medical, leisure and residential precincts. The Council is the third largest and a rapidly growing local government area in Australia. A new organisational structure sees a functional realignment of the managerial framework to support the City’s forecasted growth and positioning to provide services to over 1 million residents post 2050 with a thriving economy that values knowledge, innovation, business confidence, lifestyle and job growth.
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Economic Development Officer will champion the City of Moreton Bay’s Economic Development strategy and facilitate and deliver investment outcomes. The position is responsible for developing and implementing Economic Development plans and strategies and providing effective leadership and guidance to the organisation across economic growth, investment leveraging, tourism and visitor attraction.
Key responsibilities and outcomes:
- Develop and implement strategies to grow economies with a view on the economic prosperity of the region.
- Develop, support and facilitate partnerships that activate economic transition, innovation and growth in the region through stakeholder engagement, collaboration, investment attraction, promotion and supporting initiatives.
- Work in partnership with regional and industry stakeholders and other government agencies to deliver and promote business, industry and regional development services to support economic growth and diversity to regional clients.
- Identify emerging opportunities and drive the implementation of priority programs and projects for the region.
- Develop and maintain a work environment that encourages participation, teamwork, innovation and excellence effectively address any staffing issues, communicating regularly with the teams and building commitment to service performance improvement.
- Proactively provide professional advice to the CEO, Executive and other stakeholders when requested or necessary, on a range of economic development issues, policies and programs.
- Contribute to the identification and management of risks applicable to the team and ensure that staff understand key risks facing the team and how they should be managed.
- Contribute to industry and community consultation on services, enhancements and issues of concern.
- Closely monitor political, economic, industry, employment and social trends and developments which may impact on current Council operations.
- Build and develop a cohesive and high performing team that is aligned to business needs and is characterised by teamwork, respect for others, ethical decision making, innovation and flexibility
You will champion a values-based leadership approach which delivers a productive, safe and collaborative work environment, modelling high standards of conduct, performance and behaviour. The role requires a demonstrated ability to lead a range of staff to deliver on and exceed priorities whilst maintaining excellence in service. Significant success at management level in a similar position along with tertiary qualifications, are highly desirable.
You will possess exceptional leadership skills and can clearly develop and translate Council’s objectives, policies, plans and strategies to internal and external stakeholders. Your strong sense of judgement and astute decision-making skills along with a strong customer ethos are imperative to the success of this role.
