City of Moreton Bay is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Technical Officer - Planning to join our Development Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career, studying planning, looking to transition into the planning industry, or seeking hands-on experience in a local government environment.

Working alongside experienced planners and development professionals, you'll gain valuable exposure to development assessment processes and play an important role in supporting the delivery of quality outcomes for our growing community.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you'll support the planning and development assessment process by:

  • Assisting with the administration and assessment of development applications
  • Reviewing applications to ensure all required information has been provided
  • Calculating and processing development application fees
  • Coordinating referrals and applying relevant assessment requirements
  • Supporting infrastructure charging and cost recovery processes
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, and technical documentation
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to a positive, customer-focused team culture

About You

We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, highly organised, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You may be early in your career, currently studying, or have experience in town planning, administration, customer service, property, development, or a related field.

Most importantly, you'll bring:

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Confidence working with systems, processes, and legislation-based frameworks
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to learn
  • A collaborative approach and positive attitude

What We're Looking For

  • An interest in planning, development, property, local government, or community development
  • Experience in administration, customer service, project support, compliance, or a similar field will be highly regarded
  • An understanding of Development Applications, the Planning Act, DA Rules, referral triggers and key legislation
  • Awareness of the State Planning Policy, SEQ Regional Plan and relevant planning schemes
  • Ability to interpret and apply processes, policies, and procedures
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Current C Class Driver's Licence and White Card (or willingness to obtain)
