About our opportunity

This is a great opportunity to join our Environmental Services team and support the community to create a healthy, protected and integrated natural environment.

This is a new position within the team, reporting directly to the Coordinator Environmental Centres and Projects. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise on a variety of complex environmental and restoration projects.

You will lead the delivery of environmental projects, managing project teams, external consultants and contractors to achieve positive outcomes. Examples of the projects currently managed by Environmental Services’ Projects team include Council’s Koala Management Plan for The Mill, Petrie, the City of Moreton Bay River Cleanup Program, Kabi Kabi Habitat Tree Relocation Project and Osprey Nest platform upgrades.

This position will also facilitate project-based community consultation, representing Council at a range of meetings and forums, as well as develop and implement environmental strategies that promote positive outcomes, offset environmental impacts and address community concerns.

About you

We are seeking someone with a comprehensive knowledge and experience working within a government/ political context and in accordance with Queensland and Commonwealth Environmental legislation. You will have the ability to undertake environmental audits and evaluations with a high attention to detail and use your excellent project management skills to manage complex projects autonomously and prepare quality reports.

You will be a natural communicator, well adept in building quality relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and working collaboratively to ensure positive environmental outcomes for Council and the community.

We’re continuing to include cutting edge technology, such as thermal drone surveillance, into our conservation projects, so you will need a keen interest in emerging and innovative technologies and its use in conservation and restoration projects.

Prior experience working on conservation programs (including fauna monitoring at remediated sites) and contaminated land management would be advantageous, in addition to a tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management or a related discipline.

Environmental Services Department

This role sits within our Environmental Services department that supports Council and the community to create a healthy, protected and integrated natural environment which people value, engage with and enjoy. This is achieved through the delivery of environmental programs and projects targeted at conservation of the natural environment and protection and enhancement of environmental values.

The department has three management areas - Environment and Conservation; Pest Management and Environmental Centres and Projects, supported by a Business Support unit.  This position is based within Environment Centres and Projects team, which is responsible for the operation of Council’s 3 Environmental Education Centres as well as delivery of special projects directed at specific issues central to enhancing Council’s special natural places.
