The details:

  • Permanent Full Time
  • $71,286 pa (includes industry allowance and uniform allowance) + 12% super + leave loading. Please note, progression in remuneration (up to Level 8 - $75,368 pa inc. allowances + super) is available for this position upon meeting performance and training requirements outlined in a structured crew leader framework.

This position will have you working with modern equipment and leading a small team while looking after a diverse range of natural areas such as foreshore zones, riparian zones and urban interface with some exposure to rainforest zones. 

Our Natural Areas Crew Leaders are typically working together with a labourer to undertake maintenance on the region’s natural area environments. This includes environmental weed control, natural area conservation works, maintaining and constructing our extensive recreational and fire trail networks, some prescribed burning as well as soft landscaping within council's natural areas. To get these duties completed your duties will include carrying out manual handling/general labouring tasks, 4WD and ATV operation, chemical spraying and operating other relevant plant and equipment needed for general vegetation maintenance in natural area environments.

As the Crew Leader of the team, you'll also be identifying and allocating relevant resources and materials to undertake allocated tasks, developing and reviewing maintenance schedules and maintaining the associated records and identifying horticultural and environmental concerns as well as engaging with a range of technical staff across relevant departments and State Agencies regarding any required resolutions.

About you

Ideally you will have demonstrated current or recent experience maintaining and working within natural areas environments with some experience leading people. Having previously undertaken fire training or having exposure to prescribed burns is desirable. You'll definitely have previous experience working within a position undertaking manual tasks with a high priority on safety, a solid level of both written and verbal communication skills and the ability to undertake basic level administrative and technology activities on Council software's. Safety is also a key priority for us as an organisation, and we will be seeking candidates who not only have the knowledge and physical ability to safely undertake the manual tasks required in this role, we want you to have a genuine desire to contribute to a positive safety culture.

Paired with the above mentioned skills and experience, you'll also hold a current truck (MR/medium rigid class or above) licence, a Construction Induction card and an ACDC Herbicide Application Certification (or willing to obtain within 6 months). Holding a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management or a qualification in another relevant field is highly desirable and you must either hold or be willing to obtain this to progress through the Crew Leader framework.
