The details:

  • Permanent Full Time
  • Up to $79k pa + super (up to 12%) + with an additional $3,000 yearly retention bonus for the first 3 years where eligible (paid biannually, minimum 6 month service required by payment date)
    Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream B) - Level 7 of the EBA5
  • 9 day fortnight
  • 76 hour fortnight
  • Location: Caboolture. Please also note while this position location is set, there may be times where there is a requirement to travel to other workshops within the region. 

As a Motor Mechanic, you will primarily work out of one of Council's three fleet workshops. You'll be performing daily preventative and corrective maintenance, gaining exposure to a wide range of Council's equipment including:

  • light vehicles
  • trucks
  • heavy plant (excavators, backhoes, graders, rollers, dozers, compactors etc.) 
  • other task specific equipment (wood chippers, tractors, sweepers etc.)

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • performing daily preventative and corrective maintenance 
  • conducting mandatory annual safety inspections and Certificates of Inspection (where applicable) across a range of Council's assets
  • undertaking regular onsite repair work and servicing as required
  • providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices
  • performing occasional steel fabrication and welding work 
  • participating in the after hours call out roster

About you

Ideally you will have demonstrated experience undertaking maintenance on a range of the equipment detailed above on your resume. You'll need strong communication skills (verbal, written and numerical), excellent time management and the ability to work constructively in a team. Safety is a top priority at City of Moreton Bay, so we seek candidates who have the knowledge and physical ability to safely perform the manual tasks required in this role and have a genuine desire to contribute to a positive safety culture.

Paired with the above mentioned skills and experience we'll need you to have:

  • a recognised trade certificate as a motor mechanic (heavy vehicle motor mechanic or diesel fitter qualification is highly desirable)
  • a current C class drivers licence (with the ability to obtain a HR class driver's licence within 6 months)
  • a Queensland Recognised Road Worthy Examiners License for Heavy Commercial - up to 16t GVM, Light Commercial and Passenger and Heavy/Light Trailers - or be willing to obtain within 12 months of appointment
