The Strategic Planning and Place Making Department takes a strategic approach to long term planning and policy development to shape the growth, urban form, accessibility, and livability of our region whilst managing natural hazards and protecting and conserving our natural resources, environment, and heritage. The department’s plans, programs and initiatives are structured to meet the requirements of the Southeast Queensland Regional Plan and related State legislation, in addition to supporting local demands and needs.
As a Senior in the Neighbourhood and Precinct Planning team will provide planning expertise and lead and support the delivery of neighbourhood and precinct planning projects for Moreton Bay. This is an exciting opportunity to plan for people at a localised level. We are a dynamic team with a strong focus on collaboration, creative ideas and problem solving for complex planning matters and genuinely using feedback from the community to shape future neighbourhoods.
This role will see you engaging with the community at pop-up’s, organising community meeting’s, researching and problem solving complex localised planning matters, engaging with colleagues across the organisation, developing policy positions and more.
Additionally, you will:
- provide senior technical input into the development and implementation of key policy around planning scheme, infrastructure planning, major projects and planning at a localised level
- collaborate on the review of the activities, business processes, procedures and policies of the strategic planning and place making teams to ensure relevance, currency and timely best practice outcomes and customer service are achieved
- represent Council at a range of customer meetings, community consultations, and business forums
- partner and foster strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate major projects
- lead the development of team capability to drive a high performance, continuous improvement and customer focussed culture
About You:
You will have considerable knowledge and experience in strategic land use planning and development assessment practices which have seen the successful delivery of moderate -to complex strategic land use planning projects at a localised level, and hold a Degree in Urban and Regional planning, or equivalent.
You are a strategic thinker that can provide technical expertise and guidance with excellent communication skills that can engage and communicate confidently, complex planning concepts and matters with members of the community and stakeholders. You will also enjoy being a part of a positive and collaborative team environment to achieve quality outcomes for our communities and neighbourhoods.
Additionally, you will have:
- comprehensive knowledge of planning and urban design processes, relevant state and local government legislation, including the Planning Act 2016, SEQ Regional Plan, Council planning schemes, local laws and policies
- considerable experience in the delivery of moderate-to-complex strategic land use planning projects, leading and guiding project-based teams and conducting evidence-based research to inform policy options and directions, and planning scheme amendments
- demonstrated experience in project management and associated risk management practices
