Join City of Moreton Bay as a Biodiversity Planner and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.
If you’re an environmental planner with the ambition and drive to help Australia’s third-largest Council get the balance right between growth and our goal of healthy environments, then this job is the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
Through the Corporate Plan 2022-2027, our Council has set the aspirational vision for how we want our City to look and feel 20 years from now - Our Moreton Bay. Amazing Places. Natural Spaces. This vision is underpinned by Our Healthy Environments goal: By 2033, our Moreton Bay will be renowned for its healthy natural and built environments that enhance our identity, support biodiversity and our sustainable lifestyles.
Our challenge is to deliver on the vision and goal, in the context of also planning to sustainably accommodate a fast-growing community. You will be well-placed to deliver however, as Council has also adopted 6-long-term strategies that provide direction for the city's transformation over the next 10 to 20 years. One of these, the Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2042, is a key guidance document for our Biodiversity Planning program.
The Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning Department sits within the Planning Directorate, part of the City Futures Group, and takes a lead role in developing the strategic environment and sustainability policies, projects and plans to deliver healthy environments and sustainable outcomes. Its functions are implemented across three branches including Sustainability Planning, Natural Hazards Planning and Biodiversity Planning. Right now, we are looking for a Planner - Biodiversity to join the Biodiversity Planning team.
As our Planner - Biodiversity, you will work across biodiversity conservation planning, strategic land-use planning and infrastructure project-delivery contexts. You will provide routine technical advice on environmental and biodiversity planning matters in accordance with legislative, policy and business requirements.
Additionally, you will:
- undertake allocated planning activities to support the delivery of environmental and biodiversity outcomes and to meet the needs of the organisation and the community within our City
- conduct research and analysis and contribute to the preparation of strategic plans, costings, reports, and associated documents for a range of environmental and biodiversity planning projects
- lead and support the delivery of smaller, less complex environmental and biodiversity planning projects to achieve strategic and business outcomes
About you
We are seeking a confident and motivated self-starter with knowledge and experience in either biodiversity planning, environmental planning or strategic planning including relevant qualifications within those fields or similar. You will have experience in providing technical advice on environmental and biodiversity planning matters, as well as support in the delivery of smaller, less complex environmental and biodiversity planning projects.
You will be able to demonstrate project management and communication skills to deliver great fit-for-purpose and robust outcomes, paying attention to the finer details, while still having the big picture in mind. The ability to independently work through challenges to resolve difficulties or find and recommend alternative solutions to accomplish objectives is essential.
You will also have:
- knowledge and experience in applying relevant federal, state, and local government legislation and biodiversity planning, land-use planning and infrastructure delivery principles and practices.
- good research and analysis skills to prepare and review technical reports and documentation.
- excellent time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
- well-developed communication skills with an ability to communicate planning concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner and negotiate sustainable outcomes.
