The details:

  • Work part time - 3 to 5 days a week (Monday to Friday), depending on what suits your study needs
  • Appointment will be for the duration of your undergraduate studies.
  • $34.68 per hour + 12% super (level 1)
    Great news - EBA6 currently is underway, with a proposed increase of 5% effective 1 July 2025

We are seeking a friendly, reliable and motivated University Student to work in our Fire Management team!

Our Emergency Management and Public Safety Department aim to build a safer and more resilient community. The key actions to achieve these aims includes partnering with stakeholders to develop arrangements to prevent, prepare, respond and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Other core functions include the enhancement of public safety through reducing the risk of fire on council land, proactive community engagement and the management of close circuit television systems to support business operations, crime prevention and investigation. The Department comprises four teams to manage these initiatives, these being; Disaster Management, Disaster Resilience and Recovery, Fire Management and Public Safety.

Whilst working alongside experts in the field, some of the tasks and duties you will be involved in is:

  • Supporting the team in developing planned burn plans
  • Assisting with bushfire response and operation administration
  • Engaging and communicating with a range of stakeholders
  • Undertaking environmental assessments, including the use of GIS (via desktop and out in the field)
  • Contributing into the development and delivery of fire management projects

Your enthusiasm and drive will be paired with exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills as we strive to provide a great experience for all of our stakeholders we interact with.

You will be currently enrolled in relevant university studies ideally with an Environmental Science or Management focus and be available to work a minimum of 21.75 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
