The details:

  • Permanent Full Time | 9 day fortnight 
  • $71,286 pa (includes industry allowance and uniform allowance) + 12% super + leave loading. Please note, progression in remuneration (up to Level 8 - $75,368 pa inc. allowances + super) is available for this position upon meeting performance and training requirements outlined in a structured crew leader framework
  • Great news - EBA6 currently is underway, with a proposed remuneration increase of 5% effective 1 July 2025
  • Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream B) - Level 6 of the EBA5
  • 76 hour fortnight
  • Location: Caboolture Depot

As a Crew Leader within our Natural Areas team, you will play a pivotal role in leading a small crew responsible for maintaining and restoring a diverse range of natural environments. Working across key ecological zones - including foreshore areas, riparian landscapes, urban interface regions and select rainforest zones - you’ll coordinate and deliver high impact conservation outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • coordinating and undertaking conservation and environmental maintenance tasks, such as:
    • environmental weed management
    • habitat restoration works
    • soft landscaping and rehabilitation interventions
    • recreational fire and trail network maintenance
    • assisting with prescribed ecological burns
  • operating a range of specialised equipment, including:
    • utility terrain vehicles
    • 4WD vehicles
    • chemical application and vegetation control tools
  • allocating resources and materials efficiently across projects
  • developing and reviewing maintenance schedules
  • maintaining detailed operational and compliance records
  • identifying and troubleshooting ecological or operational challenges in the field and escalating to leaders where necessary
  • engaging with a range of stakeholders including residents, technical personnel, team members from other departments and external agencies

You’ll also be expected to contribute to a strong safety culture through leadership and practical example, reinforcing best practices for manual handling, equipment use and chemical application.

About you

You’ll bring to this role:

  • demonstrated experience in operational natural resource or environmental management, with a background in tasks such as weed control, revegetation, fire management or similar
  • some leadership experience, ideally coordinating small teams in a field or outdoor environment
  • strong focus on safety and manual work procedures, with the physical capacity to perform labour intensive tasks
  • well developed communication skills (written and verbal)
  • proficiency in using digital tools for basic administrative duties - including creating/updating work orders, developing maintenance schedules, and managing task related resources

To be considered, you must also hold:

  • A current Medium Rigid (MR) class truck licence or above
  • A Construction Induction Card (White Card) - or be willing to obtain prior to commencement
  • ACDC (Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control) Certification - or be willing to obtain within six months of commencement

Whilst it’s not mandatory for applicants to hold a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management (or similar) initially, it is a requirement for ongoing progression in Council’s Crew Leader framework.
