The Details:
- Maximum Term Full Time (4 years) | 9 day fortnight
- Starting at $58,349 pa (includes industry allowance and uniform allowance) + 12% super (level 7 - pro rata)
- Incremental increases will occur with time spent in the position or completion of agreed number of training competencies (whichever comes first)
- Please note - junior rates apply for applicants under 21 years of age - remuneration starting at $32,169 pa including allowances + super + allowances)
- 76 hour fortnight
- Location: Our apprentices are required to work across all of our workshops during their apprenticeship (currently based at Narangba, Margate and Caboolture) to allow for maximum exposure to the full range of our equipment and operation.

Are you ready to kick start your career in the mechanical trade while contributing to the essential services that keep our community moving? As a Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic Apprentice with Council’s Fleet team, you’ll gain hands on experience working across one of our three well equipped fleet workshops.
This apprenticeship offers the chance to learn from experienced tradespeople while working on a diverse range of Council vehicles and equipment, including:
- Trucks and light vehicles
- Heavy plant such as excavators, backhoes, graders and compactors
- Tractors, mowers, road sweepers and wood chippers
You’ll play an important role in supporting the delivery of daily preventative and corrective maintenance, ensuring our fleet remains safe, reliable and ready to serve the community.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Meet your apprenticeship training requirements, including attending scheduled training, working towards competency completion and maintaining accurate training records.
- Assist with technical inspections of vehicles, plant and equipment, including checking parts, materials and components required for repairs.
- Support workshop operations by helping deliver routine servicing, fault diagnosis and repair tasks under supervision.
- Use tools, equipment and workshop facilities safely and effectively, following all Council workplace health and safety policies, procedures and best practices.

About you
You’re someone with a genuine interest in mechanical work and the motivation to successfully complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. You enjoy hands on learning, have a solid mechanical aptitude and are ready to build your skills in a professional workshop environment.
You’ll thrive in this role if you can:
- Work well as part of a team, communicate clearly and contribute to a positive, customer focused workplace
- Use sound written, verbal and numeracy skills to meet the training and job requirements
- Build strong working relationships and collaborate constructively with others
To be successful, you’ll also need:
- A current C Class driver’s licence (minimum provisional)
- To meet Council’s vaccination requirements for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus
