The Details:

  • Permanent Full Time | 9 day fortnight 
  • Remuneration starting at up to $83,304 pa (includes industry allowance and uniform allowance) + 12% super + an additional $3,000 yearly retention bonus for the first 3 years for applicable applicants (paid biannually, min. 6 month service required by payment date)
  • 76 hour fortnight
  • Location: Narangba - please note, while this position location is set, there may be times where there is a requirement to travel to other workshops within the region (other workshops located at Caboolture or Margate). 

This role is primarily based across one of Council’s three fleet workshops, where you will carry out daily preventative and corrective maintenance on a diverse range of Council assets. You’ll work with a broad mix of equipment, including light vehicles, trucks, heavy plant (excavators, backhoes, graders, compactors), and specialised machinery such as tractors, mowers, road sweepers, and wood chippers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completing mandatory annual safety inspections and issuing Certificates of Inspection (where applicable) across a wide range of fleet assets.
  • Performing maintenance, repairs and overhauls on light, medium and heavy vehicles as well as mobile plant
  • Undertaking steel fabrication and welding tasks as required
  • Conducting onsite repairs and servicing, including urgent or unplanned work
  • Providing guidance and support to apprentices within the workshop
  • Participating in the after-hours call‑out roster on a rotating basis

About you

You bring recent, hands‑on experience in the maintenance and repair of light, medium and heavy vehicles and mobile plant. You communicate clearly, manage your time well, and work effectively as part of a team

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • A recognised trade certificate as a Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic or Diesel Fitter
  • A current driver’s licence, with the ability to obtain an HR licence within 6 months
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnostics, repair and overhaul across a variety of vehicle and plant types
  • The physical capability to safely perform manual and workshop based tasks
  • Willingness to obtain a Queensland Recognised Roadworthy Examiner’s Licence (Heavy Commercial up to 16t GVM, Light Commercial and Passenger, and Heavy/Light Trailers) within 12 months of appointment
