We’re excited to be growing our in-house legal team and are seeking talented Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel to join us. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced lawyers looking to grow your career and make a meaningful impact in Local Government. Our legal capabilities are commercial contracting, construction/ infrastructure contracting, governance, property, planning and environment, and dispute resolution.

At the City of Moreton Bay, your work will help shape decisions that affect the community every day. You’ll step into a trusted advisory role, working at the heart of strategic, legal and operational decision-making within Australia’s third-largest council.


About the Opportunity

In this team, no two days are the same. You will:

  • Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to senior stakeholders across planning, infrastructure, governance and compliance
  • Work on complex, high-profile matters, delivering legally sound and commercially practical outcomes
  • Support major projects and initiatives by identifying risks and offering solutions-focused advice
  • Draft and review a wide range of legal documents, including contracts, agreements and opinions
  • Contribute to dispute resolution to achieve the best outcomes for stakeholders
  • Collaborate across the organisation to embed legal considerations into decision-making
  • Advise on governance, risk management, compliance and operational excellence

What You Will Bring

You are a commercially minded lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will bring:

  • Strong legal capability with the ability to provide practical, actionable advice
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A proactive approach and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience or interest in areas such as administrative, commercial, property, planning & environment law, government advisory or litigation
  • A genuine interest in contributing to public sector outcomes and community impact
