This role provides system support and undertakes a range of accounting activities in accordance with accounting practices, standards, and legislation to ensure departmental outcomes are achieved. You will provide financial advice on financial matters to management and team members.
Ensuring adequate controls and processes are in place within council to reduce the risk of financial non-compliance and the integrity of the data recorded in council’s financial systems is maintained by creating appropriate reporting mechanisms and completing periodic reconciliations.
Specifically, responsibilities and duties will include:
- Participate in the planning and delivery of Council’s annual budget, quarterly reviews and long-term financial forecasts as required.
- Daily, weekly and monthly reports and journals.
- Assist in month end financial reporting to Council.
- Ensure accounting activities are in accordance with accounting practices, standards, and legislation to ensure departmental outcomes are achieved.
- Ensure adequate controls and processes are in place within council to reduce the risk of financial non-compliance and the integrity of the data recorded in council’s financial systems.
- Proactively engage with key stakeholders, understand their business needs and provide sound advice to inform decision making.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge and application of accounting practice, procedures, standards, and legislation, and who holds a Degree in Accounting and/or Commerce or equivalent and has been in a similar role within a large organisation.
You will have experience providing financial advice to key stakeholders with strong people and relationship management skills to effectively communicate and engage to all levels of the business.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to undertake accounting activities with efficiency and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on providing quality customer service.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
