About our opportunity

We are seeking a passionate WHS professional, ideally experienced in the construction industry!

You will partner closely with our Project and Asset Services team, and will lead the implementation of the Wellbeing and Safety plan for council and operationalise the implementation of Council’s safety management system with your key construction and maintenance stakeholder groups.

As the WHS subject matter expert you will provide internal and client focused technical advice, building capability and the management of WHS risks and compliance associated with project work. You'll also:

  • Drive safety improvements by implementing, monitoring, and reviewing plans and department Safety Risk Registers, and leading the implementation of targeted initiatives to reduce WHS risk.
  • Undertake site inspections and audits as required, targeting risk, control effectiveness and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, and deliver on corrective actions that reduce risk through hierarchy of control.
  • Attend and support with subject matter expertise working groups, safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and other health and safety related meetings as required and monitor and report on actions.
  • Role model behaviour that fosters a culture of psychological safety, trust, open communication and learning that drives a constructive culture.

About you

We are seeking a confident communicator, who builds relationships easily and is ready to build on their experience in a safety role, ideally with a construction focus.

You will have an in depth working knowledge of applicable WHS legislation, contractor management, and how this applies in to high risk construction work.

With strong skills in communication and the capacity to engage and influence internal stakeholders and external clients to meet desired WHS outcomes at all levels of the organisation, you will quickly embed yourself as a trusted source for advice.

You will bring comprehensive knowledge in managing health and safety matters and investigations, the ability to use empathy and discretion when required, and have a customer-centric approach to drive positive change.
