You have worked hard over the past few years building all your valuable knowledge at university, and now it's time to put that knowledge into practice in a supportive work environment... and we have leaders and mentors keen to be a part of that next step for you.

The details:

  • Multiple opportunities available - commencing 29 January 2025
  • Permanent Full Time | 9 day fortnight
  • Initial 2 year graduate program with rotations every 6 months
  • $79,563pa + 12% super
    Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream) - starting on Level 3 of EBA5, progressing through to level 5 in annual increments
  • 72.5 hour fortnight | working Monday to Friday
  • Hybrid, flexible working environment, including some work from home days.
  • Location: our departments involved in this program are located at Strathpine, Caboolture and Narangba Depot... so you will need to be willing and able to work from any of these locations.

Some of the areas you could be working in...

  • Development Services: Plan and undertake engineering and specialist assessments, infrastructure charging and operations.
  • Strategic Planning and Placemaking: Deliver and review Council's planning scheme, regional planning and urban research, master planning, urban design and placemaking.
  • Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning: Shape our strategic environmental policy and projects, providing specialist advice regarding biodiversity, sustainability and climate change, and deliver key environment and sustainability initiatives for Council including land buyback programs.
  • Integrated Transport: Provide detailed planning of major capital transport infrastructure projects, active transport programs and green infrastructure, as well as addressing network inefficiencies, road safety, and strategy and analysis modelling.
  • Drainage, Waterways and Coastal Planning: Plan and design stormwater, natural waterway, floodplain and coastal infrastructure projects and upgrades to existing infrastructure, and identifying and managing floodplain and coastal risks. 
  • Parks and Recreation: Plan and design parks, recreation, and open space infrastructure projects, including new assets and renewals/upgrades to existing assets. 
  • Building and Facilities: Plan and design our buildings and facilities - including new assets and upgrades to existing infrastructure. 
  • Strategic Infrastructure Planning: Develop and manage our statutory Local Government Infrastructure Program and undertaking strategic network planning.
  • Waste Services: Manage our waste and recycling facilities (four major waste facilities and eight transfer stations), waste minimisation initiatives, waste capital works programs, legislative compliance, and planning. 
  • Asset Maintenance: Maintain our assets including building and facilities, fleet, roads and drains, parks and playgrounds, reserves, sporting fields, public amenities, and civil infrastructure.
  • Project Management: Plan and deliver the annual capital projects program including buildings, parks, facilities, roads, drainage, waterways, coastal and bridges. 
  • Asset Management: Provide asset management (asset capture, planning and forecasting), capital planning, and survey services for council. Develop asset management policies, strategies, and financial forecasts to inform our forward works program and budgets.  

So what are we looking for in our 2025 program team members...

  • You will be a recent graduate... or right in your final semester (good luck!)... and on the search for that opportunity that will set you up in your career in either Engineering or Planning.
    • Engineering... could be a degree focused on civil, coastal, drainage, mechanical, environmental, structural, electrical, project management, and/or mechatronic.
    • Planning... could be a focus on town planning, urban planning, urban design, urban development, architects, and/or transport planning.
  • A positive attitude, reliable, motivated team player, excited by the opportunity to be working alongside professionals in the field you have studied.
