The details:
- Permanent Full Time
- Remuneration up to $79k pa + super (up to 12%) + an additional $3,000 yearly retention bonus for the first 3 years (paid biannually, min 6 month service required by payment date)
Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream B) - Level 7 of the EBA5
- 9 day fortnight
- 76 hour fortnight
- Location: Margate. Please also note while this position location is set, there may be times where there is a requirement to travel to other workshops within the region.

About our opportunity
This position will have you predominantly working out of one of our three fleet workshops where you'll be undertaking daily preventative and corrective maintenance on a large variety of Council equipment ranging from light vehicles and trucks to heavy plant (excavators, backhoes, graders etc.) and tractors. This will include:
- mandatory annual safety inspections and Certificates of Inspection (where applicable) to Council's fleet across a range of assets
- undertaking steel fabrication and welding work
- conducting regular onsite repair work and servicing as required
- providing guidance to apprentices
- participating in the after hours call out roster

About you
Ideally you will have demonstrated recent experience in maintenance and repair/overhaul of light, medium and heavy vehicles and mobile plant. You'll have sound communication skills (numerical, written and verbal), sound time management skills and the ability to work constructively as part of a team. Safety is also a key priority for us as an organisation, and we will be seeking candidates who not only have the knowledge and physical ability to safely undertake the manual tasks required in this role, we want you to have a genuine desire to contribute to a positive safety culture.
Paired with the above mentioned skills and experience we'll need you to have:
- a recognised trade certificate as a heavy vehicle motor mechanic/diesel fitter
- a current drivers licence (with the ability to obtain a HR class driver's licence within 6 months)
- experience in maintenance and repair/overhaul of light, medium and heavy vehicles and mobile plant
- a Queensland Recognised Road Worthy Examiners License for Heavy Commercial - up to 16t GVM, Light Commercial and Passenger and Heavy/Light Trailers - or be willing to obtain within 12 months of appointment
