City of Moreton Bay is a strong and connected community, nestled across coastal and hinterland landscapes that enjoy a pristine natural environment. It boasts award-winning commercial, educational, medical, leisure and residential precincts. The Council is the third largest and a rapidly growing local government area in Australia. A new organisational structure sees a functional realignment of the managerial framework to support the City’s forecasted growth and positioning to provide services to over 1 million residents post 2050.
Reporting to the General Manager – The Manager Waste and Resource Recovery is accountable for leading the planning, strategic direction and delivery of Councils waste management and resource recovery services to meet operational requirements for more than 520,000 customers and ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
  Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
- Lead the Waste and Resource Recovery department (circa 75 FTE)
- Manage a significant operational budget (circa $70M), reporting on performance and implementing improvements.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders including with Councillors, regulators, State and Federal government agencies, residents and ratepayers and community interest groups
- Oversee the operations of 12 waste facilities including 3 major landfills, with a key focus on safety, compliance, customer experience and operational excellence
- Lead the planning, network planning, strategy and policy development and implementation relating to waste and resource recovery to ensure effective operations into the future.
- Oversee the procurement and contract management for a wide range of waste management and resource recovery services.
- Oversee a team of customer service professionals with a key focus on enhancing customer experience.
- Use all reasonable and practical measures to prevent or minimise environmental harm and comply with Council’s environmental policies, protocols and procedures.
- Foster teamwork, innovation and a culture of excellence by working closely with coordinators and team leaders.
You will champion a values-based leadership approach which delivers a productive, safe and collaborative work environment, modelling high standards of conduct, performance and behaviour. The role requires a demonstrated ability to lead a range of staff to deliver on and exceed priorities whilst maintaining excellence in service.  Significant experience (10+ years) at management level in Waste / Recovery services along with tertiary qualifications, are highly desirable.
You will possess exceptional leadership skills and can clearly develop and translate Council’s objectives, policies, plans and strategies to internal and external stakeholders. Your strong sense of judgement and astute decision-making skills along with a strong customer ethos are imperative to the success of this role.
