The Details:

  • Permanent Full Time | 9 day fortnight 
  • $106,974 + 12% super (level 6) + a commuter use vehicle
  • 72.5 hour fortnight
  • Location: Narangba

This position will see you leading and overseeing civil infrastructure asset inspections, currently delivered by a team of 13 Asset Inspectors. You’ll provide day to day leadership, technical guidance and operational support across a diverse civil asset portfolio, including roads, drainage, footpaths, underground stormwater, bridges, culverts and other civil structures.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing operational leadership and technical oversight to the civil asset inspection and maintenance functions, ensuring activities align with Council’s strategic asset management objectives, innovation agenda and business practices
  • Operationalising Council’s civil asset inspection programs, leading the delivery of condition assessments, accurate defect identification and reliable data capture to support strategic planning, risk based prioritisation and informed decision making
  • Supporting both reactive and scheduled inspection programs, ensuring timely follow  up, accuracy and effective coordination
  • Acting as a key escalation point for the inspection team - supporting inspectors during complex customer conversations and providing customer liaison where needed
  • Offering technical advice and sourcing relevant information to respond to a wide range of asset related issues and enquiries
  • Prioritising and scoping customer requests, ensuring responses align with service levels and are managed efficiently
  • Developing and maintaining safe work practices for all inspection activities, ensuring compliance with organisational safety standards and fostering a proactive safety culture
  • Translating strategic asset management priorities into practical operational inspection programs
  • Overseeing customer request evaluation, triage and maintenance response, ensuring alignment with expectations and Council processes
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors and external partners to improve service integration, responsiveness and alignment with asset management strategies
  • Conducting occasional procurement activities for goods and services in line with Council’s procurement framework

About you

You’re an experienced, people focused leader who enjoys supporting teams, solving problems and helping others deliver great outcomes for the community. You communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure and feel confident sourcing technical information to guide your team through day to day challenges.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience working with Council infrastructure assets and an understanding of how inspections, maintenance and customer requests support wider asset management goals
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to support, mentor and develop a diverse operational team
  • Excellent communication skills - comfortable engaging with staff, customers, contractors and stakeholders, including during complex or challenging conversations
  • Friendly, collaborative relationship building skills that help create a positive, connected and productive team environment
  • A commitment to delivering high quality, customer focused service and contributing to a supportive workplace culture
  • Hands on exposure to infrastructure maintenance, with the ability to interpret technical information and help identify practical solutions to inspection findings, operational issues and asset performance concerns
  • Confidence using a range of software systems, and the ability to turn data and digital tools into improved operational practices and better decision making
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, including experience scoping and prioritising customer requests and supporting both reactive and scheduled inspection programs

Qualifications & Licences:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field is highly regarded, or significant relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Current C Class driver’s licence (minimum)
