The Details:

  • Permanent Full Time| 9 day fortnight 
  • $74,847 pa  (ie. $37.87/hour) - incl. industry and uniform allowance + 12% super (level 6) - with a 4.5% increase coming 1 July
  • Please note, progression in remuneration (up to Level 8) is available for this position upon meeting performance and training requirements outlined in a structured crew leader framework.
  • 76 hour fortnight
  • Location: Burpengary - please note, this position will be moving to a Narangba location in the near future 

This position involves leading a small drainage crew responsible for maintaining Council’s drainage network, with a strong focus on table drain maintenance. Working closely with a machine operator, primarily operating an excavator, the role supports the delivery of assigned maintenance activities to achieve quality outcomes.

Key responsibilities include identifying defects in drainage infrastructure, investigating root causes and undertaking effective remediation works to ensure assets are safe, functional and meet operational requirements.

As the Crew Leader, you’ll also play a key role in planning and coordinating day to day activities, including identifying required materials, plant and traffic control to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently. This includes using Council systems to update work orders, maintain records and support administrative requirements.

You will lead and work alongside your crew member in a hands on capacity, undertaking labouring tasks as required and operating plant and equipment where licenced, including truck operations. The team regularly utilises a tipper truck and small excavator to deliver works.

You’ll also be responsible for ensuring plant and equipment are used safely and maintained in accordance with Council requirements, while fostering a strong safety culture within your team.

Additional licences and competencies to operate relevant plant and equipment will be highly regarded.

About you

Ideally you’ll have demonstrated experience working with drainage systems or civil infrastructure maintenance, along with some experience leading or guiding small teams in an operational environment.

You will bring:

  • Practical experience in drainage or civil maintenance activities, particularly identifying defects and delivering remediation works
  • The ability to lead and work alongside a small crew, providing direction and contributing to daily tasks
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams and the public
  • A commitment to safe work practices, with the physical capability to undertake manual tasks
  • Experience using technology and systems to manage work activities and basic administrative tasks or the capacity to quickly develop these skills
  • The ability to plan, organise and allocate resources to achieve efficient maintenance outcomes

You will also hold:

  • A current truck licence (minimum MR)
  • A Construction Induction Card (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
  • A Traffic Management Implementation licence and High Risk Work Dogging (DG) licence (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)

A Certificate III in Civil Construction (or similar) is highly desirable and will be required to progress through the Crew Leader Framework.
