Join City of Moreton Bay as a Senior Spatial Analyst and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

As a Senior Spatial Analyst, you will undertake spatial analysis activities and contribute to the development of innovative spatial solutions to support strategic land use planning and major planning initiatives across the organisation, including Council’s new planning scheme.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of complex spatial and non-spatial data analytics solutions utilising a range of products and tools, including demographic, trend and statistical analysis for the Planning Scheme.
  • Provide advice and respond to requests relating to spatial analysis to inform decisions and ensure projects outcomes are achieved, supporting the requirements of different planning teams or other internal departments.
  • Develop, manage and maintain spatial datasets to support analysis and decision-making
  • Develop and maintain web maps and interactive spatial applications for internal and external users
  • Produce high-quality maps and spatial outputs in accordance with organisational standards, involving data analysis, data visualisation (e.g. Web map, Dashboard, Experience Builder, and StoryMaps), 2D/3D modelling, and the delivery of high‑quality mapping products.
  • Provide end‑user support for internal spatial products and tools and deliver appropriate training to improve understanding and effective use of these.

About you

You are a spatial professional with experience and knowledge of investigative, analytical and research expertise in the use of a range of software applications used to record, manipulate, and present spatial data. You contribute to a positive team environment and engage proactively with key stakeholders to ensure projects and deliverables are achieved. You will bring:

  • A degree in Spatial Science, Geographic Information Systems or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in the Esri suite including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS
  • Experience and knowledge of investigative, analytical and research expertise in the use of a range of software applications used to record, manipulate, and present spatial data.
  • Experience in applying relevant legislation and policy instruments (e.g. planning schemes) to mapping workflows
  • Well-developed time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed people and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to engage at all levels and provide support and deliver training to non-GIS users
  • Experience in project management and associated risk management practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator or Python

Highly regarded

  • Sound understanding of urban planning principles, with experience supporting planners through zoning and land use analysis, constraints mapping, and basic scenario modelling 
  • Experience in spatial visualisation tools such as dashboards, StoryMaps or 3D modelling
