About our opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pest Management Officer to join our team and ensure pests and vectors are effectively managed across the community.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader, you will help our team deliver a range of programs for the management and control of mosquitoes, midges, rodents, termites and other insects. Your duties will include:

  • Field surveillance to monitor mosquito populations, deploying light traps in the saltmarsh and freshwater mosquito breeding sites.
  • Treating termites and ants, including fire ants.
  • Investigating, resolving, and documenting vector and pest management requests.

Safety is one of City of Moreton Bay's highest priorities, so you’ll also need to be able to undertake comprehensive risk assessments and site inductions to ensure that you and others are working in a safe manner. A moderate level of fitness will be required, as you will need to undertake field surveillance activities, including walking through rugged terrain and saltmarsh areas.

This position is required to be part of Council’s on-call roster, ensuring that we can promptly respond to customer requests and undertake necessary vector control treatments, such as mosquito spraying, as and when required. Overtime will be applicable for the hours worked after hours and over weekends.

About you

We are looking for candidates with specialised knowledge in the identification and management of pest and vector species!

With your strong interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to converse with a range of internal and external stakeholders and work effectively as part of our team.

To undertake pest inspections within our region, is it important you can demonstrate your experience or ability to adhere to the legislative requirements under the Biosecurity Act 2014.

In addition, it will be desirable to hold the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Conservation Land Management, Environmental Management (or other relevant field) and/or significant relevant industry experience
  • Current Pest Management Technician (PMT) Licence (including timber pests)
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Current "C" Class Driver's Licence

If you have these above attributes and are keen to be part of an experienced team undertaking pest management across the region, we’d love to hear from you!
