City of Moreton Bay are proudly partnering with the Queensland Government in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work First Start Traineeship program.

This program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged job seekers with an opportunity to join our team for 12 months within a hands on traineeship position where you will develop new skills and experience whilst undertaking a nationally recognised qualification and contributing to our local community through paid employment.

To be eligible for this program, you will identify as one of the below job seekers:

  • Young People (Aged 15–24 Years)
  • Long-Term Unemployed Job Seekers
  • Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People
  • Mature-Age Job Seekers (45 Years Or Older)
  • Migrants And Refugees From Culturally And Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds
  • People With A Disability
  • Displaced Workers
  • Women Re-Entering The Workforce
  • Veterans And Ex-Service Personnel and their families

The details:

  • Multiple opportunities available
  • Full Time - Mon to Fri with a RDO every 2nd week (9 day fortnight)
  • 12 month term - starting in June 2025
  • 21 years of age or over: starting at $47,371pa (including allowances) + 12% super
    Under 21 years of age: starting at $42,950pa (including allowances) + 12 super 
  • Locations to be finalised but could include our following depots: Narangba, Burpengary, Petrie, Caboolture, Arana Hills.

Throughout the 12 month traineeship you will undertake the training requirements to complete the training certificate, whilst gaining hands on experience under the mentorship of experienced industry professionals... providing a great foundation to your new career!

Business Administration Traineeship

Our business operations functions are integral to ensuring many of our on the ground services run as efficiently and effectively as possible, whilst upholding high level of integrity and compliance. This is an opportunity to see the behind the scenes working of our operations teams, whilst gaining an understanding of how different business units come together to provide some of the diverse functions of a growing Local Government.

A business administration traineeship could see you:

    • Extending on your experience in using the Microsoft Suite and council systems 
    • Action and distribute customer requests
    • Undertake data entry to ensure records are maintained accurately
    • Stocktaking and reordering of stationary
    • Provide general administrative support to the operational teams

Parks and Gardens Traineeship

We have some of Queensland’s best natural scapes, gardens and parks and we have an opportunity for you to take it all in. Our Parks team are accountable for the maintenance of our parks, gardens, reserves and open greenspaces. A traineeship in this team would be a unique chance to contribute to the upkeep of these areas while experiencing the variety and satisfaction that comes with working outdoors in different settings.

You'll be part of a dynamic team, enjoying a diverse range of tasks and locations. Your duties will include activities such as:

    • mowing parks and nature strips
    • mulching and weeding
    • pruning and planting
    • brushcutting and hedging 
    • spraying and removal of debris and litter

    Your work will directly contribute to the upkeep of our parks, gardens and green spaces, making a tangible difference in our community's areas of enjoyment, boosting their safety and appearance. 

Civil Construction Traineeship

The City of Moreton Bay is home to vital infrastructure that keeps our community connected and thriving. Our internal construction crews play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing these assets. A traineeship in this team offers the chance to work with skilled professionals on a diverse range of civil construction projects. You'll be part of a dynamic team dedicated to preserving and improving our city's infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of our growing community.

As a trainee, you'll gain hands-on experience in essential civil construction activities, including:

    • road rehabilitation 
    • stormwater drainage installation
    • bulk earthworks
    • traffic and transport infrastructure upgrades

Your role will provide a unique opportunity to develop a comprehensive skill set in civil construction. You'll learn valuable techniques such as:

    • concrete formwork, placement and finishing 
    • road pavement compaction 
    • interpretation of complex construction drawings
    • use of advanced survey technology (GPS units and total stations) 

Working across various locations, you'll enjoy a diverse range of tasks and environments. Your contributions will directly impact the safety and functionality of our city's infrastructure, making a tangible difference in our community's daily life.

About you

To be considered for one of these opportunities you must: 

  • meet the eligibility criteria outlined above per the Queensland Government in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work First Start Traineeship program guidelines
  • be available to commence before the end of June 2025
  • have a genuine interest to work within and learn more about the selected program
  • be able to work effectively as part of teams
  • have a safety focused mindset

In addition. for the opportunities in our Parks and Gardens and Civil Construction you will:

  • have the physical ability to safely carry out manual labouring tasks
  • hold a current drivers license (minimum C class) 
  • hold or be willing to obtain a Construction Induction Card prior to commencement
