Are you ready to kick start your career in the mechanical trade while contributing to the essential services that keep our community moving?

As a Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic Apprentice with Council’s Fleet team, you’ll gain hands on experience working across our three well equipped fleet workshops.

This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn from experienced tradespeople while working on a diverse range of Council vehicles and equipment, including:

• trucks and light vehicles
• heavy plant such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes, graders and compactors
• tractors, mowers, road sweepers and wood chippers

What You’ll Be Doing:

• meeting your apprenticeship training requirements, including attending scheduled training, working towards competency completion and maintaining accurate training records
• assisting with technical inspections of vehicles, plant and equipment, including checking parts, materials and components required for repairs
• supporting workshop operations by assisting with routine servicing, fault diagnosis and repair activities under supervision
• using tools, equipment and workshop facilities safely and effectively, in line with Council's workplace health and safety requirements 
• working as part of a team to support the delivery of fleet maintenance services across Council's fleet

About you

You’re someone with a genuine interest in mechanical work and the motivation to successfully complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. You enjoy hands on learning, have a strong mechanical aptitude and are ready to build your skills in a professional workshop environment.

You’ll also bring: 

• a good level of mechanical understanding and a willingness to learn 
• the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive workplace culture 
• sound written, verbal and numeracy skills to support your apprenticeship and the day to day responsibilities 
• good time management skills and the ability to organise and complete tasks
• confidence using technology and digital systems relevant to the role 

Requirements: 

• A current C Class driver’s licence (minimum provisional licence)
• Willingness to successfully complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
• Willingness to meet Council’s vaccination requirements for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus
