The City of Moreton Bay is one of Australia's largest and fastest-growing local government areas, with a population projected to exceed one million over the next 30 years. Council manages assets of approximately $9 billion and employs more than 2,400 staff, delivering services and infrastructure that support sustainable growth, strong communities and quality lifestyles across diverse coastal and hinterland environments.

City of Moreton Bay is seeking an exceptional executive leader to join the organisation as General Manager, Corporate Communications & Engagement. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and operating as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role has executive responsibility for leading Council's corporate communications, media relations and community engagement functions to protect and enhance Council's reputation and support the delivery of Council's strategic objectives.

A core focus of the role is providing strong oversight of Council's media relations, including proactive and reactive media engagement, issues management and crisis communications. You will act as the principal adviser to the CEO on media, issues and reputational matters, including emerging risks, opportunities and recommended communication strategies. You will also establish, maintain and enforce clear media protocols, approval pathways and spokesperson arrangements across Council.

The role provides governance and strategic oversight of community communications undertaken in support of Councillors, ensuring messaging is coordinated, accurate, timely and aligned with Council policy, legislative requirements, protocols and reputational objectives. You will enable Councillors to communicate effectively with their communities by establishing clear frameworks, tools and professional support mechanisms, while maintaining appropriate separation between elected member and administrative roles.

As General Manager, you will lead the Corporate Communications and Engagement department by setting clear strategic and operational priorities, managing resources and budgets, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement. You will work collaboratively with other General Managers to implement standardised, organisation-wide communication and stakeholder management frameworks and protocols and build a high-performing team aligned to Council values and future capability needs.

This is a pivotal executive appointment for a leader with demonstrated senior experience across media, communications and community engagement in a complex organisation; proven capability in strategic media relations and issues/crisis communications; and strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work productively with Councillors, senior executives, media and diverse community groups. Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, public relations, marketing or a related discipline are required, with extensive experience leading a function in a large and complex organisation.
