Our Strategic Planning and Place Making Department takes a strategic approach to long term planning and policy development to shape the growth, urban form, accessibility and livability of our region whilst managing natural hazards and protecting and conserving our natural resources, environment and heritage. The department’s plans, programs and initiatives are structured to meet the requirements of the South East Queensland Regional Plan and related State legislation, in addition to supporting local demands and needs.

We have a growing team and we currently have multiple exciting opportunities for highly skilled Principal Strategic Planners to join our Caboolture West, Neighbourhood and Precinct Planning, and Planning Scheme teams within our Strategic Planning and Place Making Department.

The role

Your responsibilities will include operating as a technical expert and providing mentorship and guidance to team members to achieve required outcomes, within required time-frames and in a professional manner. You will lead and manage complex projects and specialist project teams (including external consultants), and pragmatically manage tasks to achieve performance outcomes and contribute to the strategic direction and vision of the division. You will act as a Council delegate on a variety of projects, providing a source of professional advice to key stakeholders.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you must possess degree in urban and regional planning or other relevant field and comprehensive knowledge of strategic land use planning processes, including the Planning Act 2016, SEQ Regional Plan, Council local laws and policies, or the ability to quickly acquire this information. You will have expert knowledge of urban planning and development issues specifically around legislation reform and place making combined with an ability to generate innovative, commercially cognisant solutions, and deliver on our commitment of continual improvement. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to coach, motivate and influence at all levels of the organisation, contributing to a positive work environment with a strong focus on provision of quality customer service.

Work Location

Please note that whilst the current work location for this position is specified above, staff may be required to transfer to any of council's work locations with notice. Council currently has administration offices located at Caboolture, Strathpine and Redcliffe as well as depots, libraries and a range of other facilities located throughout the region.
