This position sits within Council's Waste Services Department. This department aims to provide affordable, sustainable and safe waste management for residents and business in the Moreton Bay region. Waste Services delivers a wide range of waste management activities, including kerbside and on-demand bulky waste and recycling collections, operation of three major waste management facilities with landfills, two Treasure Markets and eight waste transfer stations. Impact monitoring and long-term waste and recycling strategy, planning, education and capital programs and Stakeholder liaison are also key activities that ensure waste is managed sustainably into the future. The Department employs approximately 65 staff, more than 55 contractors and manages an annual operational budget of approximately $49 M.

About our opportunity

This position will focus on executing a range of assigned contract management and administration projects including record keeping, contractor liaison and auditing and contract payments. You will provide technical advice and support on contract and procurement compliance requirements for waste services, including management facilities, the development of improvement actions to ensure compliance, develop reports, operational procedures and policies to meet legislative obligations. You will be engaged in the administration of waste management contracts through the various stages including:

  • procurement
  • awarding of contracts
  • construction and defects liability
  • maintenance or warranty periods for construction projects or equipment
  • service delivery KPIs for service contracts
  • tender evaluations 

About you

We’re looking for an experienced applicant, who can apply their knowledge and experience in waste and resource recovery contracts management and understanding of contract management principals. Analytical by nature, you will also have project management, technical report writing and research skills to undertake several administration tasks with accuracy and efficiency.

Leveraging your ability to apply knowledge of legislation, codes, industry standards, and best practices relevant to waste service contracts will be a must, along with your ability to scope, design and implement technical solutions to support and improve the effective management of all our major waste service contracts. 


Term: Permanent Full Time

Award/Level:  Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream A) - Level 4 of the Moreton Bay Regional Council EBA4 Certified Agreement

Location:  Petrie

  • $77,551 pa + super (up to 12%) + leave loading
  • 72.5 hour fortnight
  • 9 day fortnight
