The primary focus of our Drainage Waterways and Coastal Planning department is to plan, manage and design the region's coastal, stormwater and floodplain management infrastructure, including built and natural form assets, consistent with Council's corporate strategic vision, policies and strategies.
About the Opportunity:
As our Floodplain Management Engineer, you will investigating complex flood, stormwater and drainage related problems to identify cost-effective retrofit solutions and prepare detailed options analysis to support floodplain management recommendations. You will support the ongoing development of Council’s Flood Warning System including planning and co-ordination of installation and maintenance of flood warning infrastructure and systems.
You will undertake flood modelling (WBNM & TUFLOW and associated tools), with limited guidance, for waterways within the region to support infrastructure investigations and projects, including the management of specialist consultants. You will complete preliminary design and preparation of cost estimates (concept level) for floodplain management infrastructure projects.
You will engage proactively with key stakeholders in investigating, providing advice and responding to customer/client enquiries relating to the floodplain management and flood warning services provided to the community.
You will have the opportunity as a part of this role to participate in the Flood information centre.
We are seeking someone who has experience in floodplain management infrastructure planning and design. You will have well practiced skills in completing technical investigations relating to floodplain management matters and the ability to apply critical thinking, reasoning, evaluation and decision making skills. You will have refined skills in the preparation and presentation of technical reports and recommendations. You will be a great communicator and have the ability to engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will hold a Degree in Civil or Environmental engineering or equivalent.
