- $123,300 pa + 12% super (level 7) + a commuter use vehicle
- 72.5 hour fortnight
- Location: Narangba
As our Regional Arborist, you’ll provide strategic and specialist arboricultural expertise to support the effective management of Council’s tree assets and long term urban forest outcomes.
Leading a small technical team currently comprising a Senior Arborist and three Tree Asset Inspectors, you’ll guide tree inspection and asset management programs while providing technical advice across operational activities, development applications, infrastructure projects and environmental management.
This role has a strong strategic and technical focus, influencing decision making through professional advice, technical assessments and evidence based recommendations while supporting the ongoing development of policies, standards and proactive tree management programs
Key responsibilities include:
- providing specialist arboricultural advice, technical assessments and professional reports on complex tree management matters
- leading and continuously improving tree asset management programs including inspections, risk assessment, significant tree management, tree health initiatives and asset data
- reviewing development, infrastructure and capital works projects and providing practical advice on tree protection, retention and impacts
- supporting infrastructure and development works through site inspections, root investigations, tree protection planning and arboricultural supervision
- developing and improving tree management strategies, standards, procedures and programs that support a safe, sustainable and resilient urban forest
- using data, technology and industry best practice to improve service delivery, risk management and long term tree asset outcomes
- building strong relationships across Council and with developers, consultants, contractors, community members and other stakeholders
- leading, mentoring and developing the Technical Arboricultural team
- monitoring emerging legislation, Australian Standards, research and industry practices to support contemporary tree management
- researching emerging tree species and supporting species trials and urban forest diversification initiatives
This role brings together technical expertise, team leadership and strategic tree management to support consistent and sustainable arboricultural outcomes across Council.

About you
You’re an experienced arboriculture professional with strong technical expertise in tree and urban forest management, along with the ability to provide practical advice on complex tree related matters.
You’ll also bring:
- high level knowledge of arboriculture, tree biology, urban forest management, tree risk assessment and tree protection
- experience in tree asset management, including inspections, risk assessment, data management and proactive maintenance programs
- the ability to interpret construction plans, engineering designs and technical drawings and provide specialist arboricultural advice
- experience influencing planning, design and construction outcomes through practical tree protection and retention measures
- strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience developing technical or professional teams
- highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, negotiation and problem solving skills
- strong report writing skills and the ability to prepare clear technical advice and recommendations
- the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
- confidence using corporate systems and technology, including asset management, GIS and work management platforms
Requirements
- AQF Level 5 Diploma of Arboriculture or higher
- Current drivers licence
- Construction Induction Card (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
Desirable
- Current membership, or willingness to join, the Queensland Arborist Association
- Risk assessment training (QTRA, TRAQ or other)
