This position sits within Council's Waste Services Department. This department aims to provide affordable, sustainable and safe waste management for residents and business in the Moreton Bay region. Waste Services delivers a wide range of waste management activities, including kerbside and on-demand bulky waste and recycling collections, operation of three major waste management facilities with landfills, two Treasure Markets and eight waste transfer stations. Impact monitoring and long-term waste and recycling strategy, planning, education and capital programs and Stakeholder liaison are also key activities that ensure waste is managed sustainably into the future. The Department employs approximately 65 staff, more than 55 contractors and manages an annual operational budget of approximately $49 M.

About our opportunity

We have an opportunity for an experienced and knowledgeable Contract Management Officer to undertake the day to day operational requirements of the Kerbside Collection Services and waste transport contracts, including customer requests and contractor liaison.

A key responsibility of this position will be managing the operational components of our Waste Services Collection Services contract with Cleanaway. As a result, your duties will vary and utilise a working knowledge of Council’s Waste Services procurement lifecycle processes and practices and industry knowledge to:

  • undertake a range of projects relating to the Kerbside Collection Services including Truck Turnarounds, data audits, property and container information, problematic residential issues and other tasks as appropriate.;
  • undertake contract administration and recordkeeping responsibilities including the preparation of reports, briefing notes and submissions;
  • prepare service reconciliation reports enabling account payments and
  • monitor and report on contractor performance and contract compliance.

Whilst undertaking these duties, you will continuously partner and build high level relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders in order to meet the needs of Waste Services deliverables, and ensure outcomes are being delivered in line with customer expectations.  

In this position, you will also have the exciting and rewarding opportunity to support the implementation of the Council’s Waste Education and Community Engagement Plan, by presenting at schools, shopping centres and other public events.

About you

We are looking to leverage your comprehensive and demonstrated experience in kerbside collection and recycling activities, with a sound level of understanding contract management principles.

You will be well versed with the procurement Lifecyle, end to end contract management activities and contract operations and hold proficiency and experience applying knowledge of legislation, codes, industry standards and best practices relevant to waste service contracts.

To be a successful candidate, you will also be able to demonstrate the following through your experience:

  • a sound knowledge and demonstrated experience in waste and resource recovery contracts management with a solid level of understanding of contract management principles.;
  • highly developed interpersonal skills with a strong focus on the provision of quality customer service;
  • strong attention to detail, diligence and effective time management skills to meet conflicting deadlines and priorities; and
  • significant relationship building and management skills.

Award/Level:  Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream A) - Level 4 of the Moreton Bay Regional Council EBA4 Certified Agreement

Location:  Petrie

  • $77,551pa + super (up to 12%) + leave loading
  • 72.5 fortnight
  • 9 day fortnight
