  • Permanent Full Time
  • $71,286 pa (includes industry allowance and uniform allowance) + 12% super + leave loading. Please note, progression in remuneration (up to Level 8 - $75,368 pa inc. allowances + super) is available for this position upon meeting performance and training requirements outlined in a structured crew leader framework.

This dynamic position offers an exciting opportunity to manage and lead a small work crew in maintaining diverse natural environments, working across critical ecological zones including foreshore areas, riparian landscapes, urban interface regions and select rainforest zones. 

As a Crew Leader, you will coordinate environmental maintenance activities with team members and execute comprehensive natural area conservation tasks such as environmental weed management, conservation restoration works, recreational fire and trail network maintenance, prescribed ecological burning and soft landscaping interventions. 

The role demands proficiency in manual handling and general labour tasks, 4WD operation, chemical application and vegetation control as well as operating specialised environmental maintenance equipment such as utility terrain vehicles (UTV's).  

You will also be responsible for resource allocation and material management, developing and monitoring maintenance schedules, maintaining detailed operational records, identifying ecological and environmental challenges and collaborating with technical staff across departmental and agency networks.

About you

Ideally you will have demonstrated a strong background in maintaining and working within natural areas environments, along with some experience leading people. 

Your application will demonstrate a solid track record in roles involving manual tasks, with a high priority on safety. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to perform basic administrative and technology related tasks using Council software. Safety is a key priority for our organisation, and we seek candidates who not only have the knowledge and physical capability to safely perform the manual tasks but also a genuine desire to foster a positive safety culture. 

In addition to the above skills and experience, you will need to hold a current truck licence (MR/medium rigid class or above), a Construction Induction card and an ACDC Herbicide Application Certificate (or be willing to obtain it within six months). A Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management or qualification in a related field is highly desirable, and you must either hold or be willing to obtain this qualification to progress through the Crew Leader framework.
