We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our dynamic internal legal team!
As a Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice to Council on a broad range of complex and sensitive legal matters in accordance with legislative and statutory requirements while supporting the achievement of Council’s objectives and protecting its interests. This role provides support to all areas of Council operations and may include exposure to commercial law, planning, environment, property, employment, privacy, construction and governance.
You will provide legal advice and review of documents across a wide range of disciplines, draft and file legal documents, and conduct and represent Council in court, tribunals, mediation and/or counsel on litigation matters. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a range of work across our local government area as we prepare for huge growth and exciting projects, major infrastructure work and contracts of significant important to our region.
Working closely with the Senior Legal Counsels and assist with researching and preparing more complex legal matters as required, and support major projects within the Legal Department and across Council whilst building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About you
We are on the search for qualified and experienced legal professionals looking for that next challenge... sound like you?
In addition to being admitted as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland with an unrestricted practising certificate, you will bring at least 3 years post admission experience. You'll also possess:
- Experience providing legal advice and reviewing documents with minimal guidance.
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of legislative and statutory requirements.
- Ability to compose legal documents including bespoke drafting skills, and
- Quality communication skills to influence and convince on matters of specific law.
- Well-developed legal drafting and researching skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong people and relationship management skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
