As a Principal Strategic Planner - City Growth Modelling and Monitoring, you will help shape the growth for one of Australia’s fastest growing local governments, helping to build a strong evidence base, and evolve urban growth modelling that responds to land use, planning policy and development matters, to support Council’s future policies and decision making. 

Your planning, urban growth modelling, demographic, development activity, and spatial and data analysis skillsets will contribute to the delivery of a regional growth modelling and monitoring program that guides and informs strategic land use and infrastructure planning decision-making processes that support the needs of the Moreton Bay community.

About you

We are looking for someone who is looking to develop their town planning, urban growth modelling, and GIS knowledge and experience in the field of urban research, growth modelling and monitoring, development activity, and demographic analysis. You will have a Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or Planning or in spatial science, geographical information, growth modelling and data analysis (or equivalent qualifications).

We are seeking candidates who can also demonstrate:

  • expert knowledge in strategic planning and development issues, and urban growth modelling, related to regional planning, land use planning, planning policy and development activity, and incorporating innovation solutions with the ability to deliver on our commitment to continual improvement
  • substantial research skills and planning knowledge, including global, regional, and local trends and emerging issues to identify problems, devise ways to investigate and analyse these problems and provide/ communicate research-based evidence to inform planning processes and decision making
  • substantial experience in project management, managing urban growth modelling and monitoring projects, and associated risk management practices, to achieve strategic and business outcomes
  • high level people and relationship skills, contributing to a positive team and work environment with a strong focus on provision of quality customer service and mentor and facilitate professional development
  • delivery of growth modelling and monitoring outputs, and proactively engaging with, supporting, and informing strategic land use and infrastructure decision making processes
  • excellent communication skills in communicating complex planning and urban growth modelling and monitoring concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner and negotiate sustainable outcomes.
  • proficiency in urban growth modelling, GIS, and data analysis and reporting, with skills in programming languages, such as Python, highly regarded
